I have huge energy bills - will I get a massive payout?

The question above is on many business owners' minds when they start examining their energy bills and consumption. This was also on our minds when we first started, but from what we have learned from our work with FDM solicitors, huge bills don't necessarily mean brokers were receiving massive commissions on contracts.

Mis-sold Example:

A prime example of this is the 2022 energy price hikes that trapped many businesses and owners. Yes, you may have been paying five times your previous energy costs from 2019, but this doesn't mean that brokers were taking five times the commission.

We must remember that it's the commissions we are pursuing and the damages related to them.

After reviewing numerous bills, contracts, and cases, we have learned that broker commissions most likely didn't increase with the significant energy price hikes. As a result, it can be more prudent to look back at 2019 rates to estimate what might be claimable. While this may not be as enticing, we'd rather see you receive a bonus payout from a claim than expect a value that may never materialise.

With this in mind, don't be surprised if your £200,000 energy bills in 2021/2022 don't quite equal a £40,000-£50,000 payout, but rather something closer to £10,000-£20,000. That said, it is still money back into your business, and when you exit that contract, we hope you'll talk to us about our "Honest Energy UK" product to see if we can get you the best rate moving forward.
