  1. An easy one… “Is the lighting in my business, being managed effectively? Are the light on timers? Are you using LED bulb? Can motion sensors be fitted so they only remain on when needed?

  2. Do you have someone who is responsible for your energy management? Is it you? Can it be delegated to someone. Are they review things every month?

  3. How are you heating and cooling your business? Are you running conditioning? What temperature is the heating to, have you large amounts of cooling in place?

  4. Another easy on but…Does the heating run at the weekend? If so is anyone in the office, can the controls be tweaked so it doesn’t kick in until Morning?

  5. Have look you looked at sources of green energy, do you have the land, can you maximise the space you do have to save money. From ground source to solar all options should be looked at.

  6. Another simple one, but just like do you know how much your Average customer spends, are you aware of your months gas & electric bills. Ask yourself “what is my average monthly gas and electricity consumption”, and was “last month higher or lower than average?”

  7. Following this question your bills, compare them to your home ones, does it seem to high in terms of the amount of units your consuming? We had one customer recently who was actually owed £11,000.00 for energy they hadn’t used.

  8. What business gas and electricity tariffs are we currently on, and what steps have we taken to ensure we optimise our energy use within those tariffs (this is where we can really help)?

  9. When did we last take the time to compare business energy prices to ensure we are on the best deal?

  10. When are the contracts due for renewal with our current business energy suppliers? As well as this do you have a digital (pdf) or physical copy of he contract? Some businesses we have spoken with just had a voice recording! Plus there current supplier was refusing to send a pdf pdf! It’s just mad out there.

Other Questions to think about:

It’s not just about what are businesses doing now, but how are you planning for the future

  1. Think about if you had to move supplier, install new energy systems or hardware. How long will the transition take?

  2. It’s also worth looking at the specific sin your industry. Which future scenarios could help bring down costs or do you need to be considering now so you can be future proof.

  3. This is big picture but are you thinking… “What do we need to do differently to succeed in this new world?
